A model portfolio is not a gallery of your favourite pictures. It is a working tool that helps a brand or photographer decide quickly whether you suit their project. The goal is clarity, range and honesty.
Start with simple, natural photos
Before any styled shoot, brands want to see how you really look. These are often called digitals.
- A clear headshot with natural light and little or no makeup
- A full-length photo in simple, fitted clothes
- A profile view and a three-quarter view
- No heavy filters, no strong retouching
They show your face, your proportions and your natural expression, which is exactly what a casting decision begins with.
Add a few strong styled images
After the basics, include three to five images that show your look in a professional setting: clean lighting, a clear subject, and a sharp image. One great photo is worth more than ten average ones.
Show range
Brands hire for different kinds of work. Show that you can adapt:
- Commercial and lifestyle (friendly, approachable)
- Fashion and editorial (stronger poses, more attitude)
- Beauty close-ups (face and skin)
- Movement, such as walking or a short video clip
You do not need every category. Choose the ones that match the work you want.
Keep it current
Your portfolio should look like you today. Remove old photos if your look has changed a lot, and update your height, measurements and other details when they change. Accurate information avoids problems on the day of a shoot. On Talents your profile has dedicated fields for these details.
Quality and consistency
Use sharp, well-lit images with a clean background. Keep the order intentional: your strongest photo first, then the rest. Avoid duplicates and near-identical shots.
Work with photographers you trust
Test shoots with an experienced photographer can be a great way to build a portfolio, but be careful. Agree on what each side will receive and how the images can be used before you shoot. Never pay large amounts to anyone who promises guaranteed work.
Present it where it will be seen
Upload your best images to your Talents profile. Photos are reviewed before they appear publicly, so add them early. For more on getting started, read our beginner modeling tips.
